Jose de San Martin • Born in Argentina…grew up in Spain • Worked closely with Simon Bolivar • Led Argentina, Chile, and Peru to freedom beginning in 1816 • Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, and Ecuador all became known as Gran Colombia
Fr. Hidalgo , Fr. Morelos, Iturbide • 1810, a priest in Dolores, Mexico • Led 80,000 men to the capital – Mexico City • Lost…but the revolution was sparked! • Padre Morelos continued the spark set by Hidalgo • For 4 years Morelos led indep. Movements • In 1821 Agustin de Iturbide…led Mexico to its indep. from Spain (uprisings in Spain weakened their power)
