Mormons, Transcendentalists and Utopian Communities During this time many small sects spring up, including groups like Mormons, the transcendentalists as well as other Utopian Communities.

Abolitionism • Springing from the reforming fervor of the Second Great Awakening ,abolitionism (the movement to end slavery) picks up steam. • During this time newspapers like the Liberator are founded.
The Women’s movement • Women who were a central part of the social reform and abolitionist movements decide that they too deserve equal rites. • This leads to the beginning of the women’s movement.
