IDL v4 Guide to Medication Changes made from Wednesday the 26th of May 2010 Slide 1 of 35
The Medication tab can be found here. Slide 2 of 35
When you select the Medication tab, this is the screen you will see. Slide 3 of 35
Changes have been made to comply with the Scottish Patient Safety Programme. Slide 4 of 35
This is the area where drugs are added to the list. Slide 5 of 35
When adding the admissiondrugs (those drugs the patient was already on upon admission), you can tick here before clicking the Add button. Slide 6 of 35
Also, when adding any drug, you can state the reason for the drug being taken here. Slide 7 of 35
This means when drugs are added, the admission drugs are clearly labelled. And the reason (indication) for the drug being taken can be seen by hovering over the page icon with your mouse. Slide 8 of 35
On the Summary tab, it automatically begins categorising the drugs and adding valuable information, which will appear on the letters. Slide 9 of 35
On the Medication tab you can use this button to open a form. Slide 10 of 35
By selecting File and Print, you can print off this form and use it for MedicinesReconciliation. Slide 11 of 35
When an anticoagulant is added to the medication list, the anticoagulant form is added as a tab automatically. Slide 12 of 35
The Anticoagulant form has been improved to minimise clinical risk. Slide 13 of 35
First, you would need to choose a reason for the therapy from this list. If Other is chosen, you would need to state a reason here. Slide 14 of 35
Then state whether it is a previous or a new episode. Slide 15 of 35
Choose an INRtargetvalue and possibly type a reason for variation. Slide 16 of 35
Doses of the week prior and current must be added here. Slide 17 of 35
Duration and free text information would go here. Slide 18 of 35
This form must be authorised before the prescription can be sent to Pharmacy. Slide 19 of 35
And there is the ability to state a reducing dose. Slide 20 of 35
And type the reducing dose instructions in this box here. Slide 21 of 35
Drugs can be modified by clicking on the drug name. Slide 22 of 35
You are then presented with an edit screen, where medication details can be changed. Slide 23 of 35
A reason for change can be entered here. Slide 24 of 35
Use the Update button to confirm the changes to the prescription of that drug. Slide 25 of 35
On the Summary screen, the drug will be moved to the amended category if it was an admission drug. Slide 26 of 35
If you wish to correct a data entry error, you would need to use the CorrectEntry button. Slide 27 of 35
If you wish to stop an admission drug, you would need to use the DeleteEntry button. Slide 28 of 35
On the Summary screen, the deleted drug will be moved to the discontinued category if it is an admission drug. If it is not an admission drug, a deleted drug will not appear at all on the Summary screen. Slide 29 of 35
So if an admission drug is entered in error on the wrongpatient, you could prevent it appearing on the letters, by un checking the admission box. And use the CorrectEntry button. Slide 30 of 35
Then when you use the Delete Entry button, the drug will not appear on the letters, or the summary tab. Slide 31 of 35
New drugs are added as normal, but these would not be ticked as an admission drug, so they fall into the AdditionalDrugs category on the letters. Slide 32 of 35
You can authorise the prescription from the Summary tab when the Clinical Details and the Anticoagulant Therapy tabs are authorised. Slide 33 of 35
Then choose either Dispense at Pharmacy or Dispense on Ward (whatever the protocol is on your ward). Confirm your User ID and PIN. Slide 34 of 35
Those are the main changes made for the Medication elements to the IDL system. Slide 35 of 35
