  2. The Library is upstairs in Block A.

  3. This is the Library.

  4. These people work in the Library.

  5. You need your proof of enrolment to join the Library.

  6. You need your TAFE card to borrow.

  7. Go to Student Services in Block D to order your TAFE card if you don’t have one.

  8. Student services will take a photo of you.

  9. Then, they will mail the card to your home.

  10. These are the catalogues. You use the catalogue to find items in the Library.

  11. This is the search screen. Type your subject in the search box.

  12. Click on “search”.

  13. Picture dictionary Search For example: To find a picture dictionary Type picture dictionary Click on “search”

  14. Choose the item you want to find. Left click the mouse on the title.

  15. You will see the full record. Look at the Holdings. If you see Blacktown, then Blacktown Library has the item.

  16. The call number helps you find books on the shelves. A call number has numbers and letters. Numbers = Subject of the book Letters = First 4 letters of the author’s surname.

  17. Items with the same subject have the same numbers. Example: 423 = English dictionaries 428.6 = Reading books

  18. These items will have different letters because they have different authors. Example: 423/COLL 423/MACQ 423/OXFO This helps you to browse the shelves.

  19. To browse, look at the signs on the end of each row. The signs show you which numbers are in each row. Find the row that has the call number you are looking for.

  20. 428.6 Graded Readers Look at each shelf. Each shelf has labels with numbers and subjects.

  21. Look for the number of the subject you want to find. The items are in order. First look at the subject number, then look at the letters. The letters are in alphabetical order.

  22. Take the book you want off the shelf. If you don’t want to borrow it, leave it on a table for Library staff to put away.

  23. To borrow, take the book and your TAFE card to the Library desk.

  24. Library staff will stamp your item with the Date Due. Return the item on or before the stamped due date.

  25. Return the book in the desk chute.

  26. When the Library is closed, return the book in the after-hours chute. This is next to the front door of the Library.

  27. If you need the item longer, come back to the Library when the item is due.

  28. Ask Library staff to renew your book. You will need your TAFE card.

  29. Please look after the books you borrow. Tell Library staff if something is wrong with the book.

  30. If you return your books late or damaged you may have to pay a fine.

  31. Enjoy using the Library.
