What is nanoscience? §Nano science is the study of atoms, molecules, and objects whose size is on the nanometre scale ( 1 - 100 nanometres ). §Nano refers to the 10-9m power, or one billionth
What is nanotechnology? Nanotechnology is the engineering of functional systems at the molecular scale
What is Nanoscienceused for? ŸNanoscienceis what scientists use for just about every modern product. ŸIt is used in technology like your ipodand computer. Ÿ It is used in face creams and body products, food processing ŸAt the moment scientists are saying that with further development and time peoples modern ipad or laptop will eventually be able to fold down and put in your pocket like a piece of paper
Who discovered and founded nanoscience? Richard Feynman discovered nanoscience. He was born on May 11th 1918 and died on February 15th 1988. He was born in New York and died in California.
Nanoscience: Did you know? History: F The word nano is Greek and it originated from the word Nanosmeaning Dwarf. F Robert Curl, Sir Harold Kroto, and Richard Smalley discovered another nanoscale carbon form, C60, called the buckyball, which they won the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Scale FA human hair is 80,000 nm in diameter. F1 nanometre is approx. 8 times the radius of an atom and 100 times smaller than a bacterial cell.
Interesting Facts -A new form of carbon with a cylindrical nanostructure, the nanotube, was discovered in 1991. -Nanotubes have novel properties including extraordinary strength and unique electrical properties. These mechanical and electrical properties make nanotubes potentially useful in many various applications from electronics to clothes and sports gear. -Nanoscienceis not just one science. It includes biology, chemistry, physics, materials science and engineering
Nanoscience Products F Nanotechnology is already in products ranging from mobile phones, computer discs, tennis rackets and golf clubs to sunscreens and cosmetics. F L'Oreal have developed things named nanosize vesicles called nanosomes. They are used to transport active ingredients such as pure Vitamin E through the skin. F Nanotechnology is already having an impact on novel foods, medical devices, chemical coatings, personal health testing kits, sensors for security systems, water purification units for manned space craft, displays for hand-held computer games, and high-resolution cinema screens. F Nanotechnology enables new developments in electronics, medicine, healthcare and in many, many more consumer products.
The Future of nanoscience ŸScientists are hoping that in years to come all our electronics and many of our consumer products will be all made by using nanoscience. ŸFor example, ipods, phones and laptops with be able to fold up and put in our pocket. ŸNanoscience will continuously evolve and get bigger and bigger, or more correctly, get smaller and smaller.
