  2. Quiz Quiz Trade Trade • Instructions: • Students get given a concept, definition or piece of information. They internalise this, possibly by doing a short activity with it, then they have to move around the room and swap this definition with other students. • They should use the script provided to ensure effectiveness.

  3. Quiz Quiz Trade Trade Task: Move around the room and trade until you have definitions and examples of all the conversational roles. In your books: Pacifier Leader Attacker Defender Follower • Johnson 1: Hi, do you know what a pacifier is? • Johnson 2 : No. I don’t. Please tell me. • Johnson 1 : A pacifier is..... An example from the Apprentice is... • Johnson 2 : Thanks. Do you know what an attacker is? • Johnson 1 : No. • Johnson 2 : An attacker is....An example from the Apprentice is...

  4. Marketplace • Instructions: • Students get given a concept, definition or piece of information. They internalise this, possibly by doing a short activity with it, then they have to move around the room and swap this definition with other students. • They should use the script provided to ensure effectiveness.

Marketplace • Groups of 3/4: • Groups get given information, which they must work together to process, • Create a ‘market-stall’ (teaching resource) that contains all the important information they have gleaned. • Rules: • Only 10 words in total • As many images/ symbols as you need • One person from the group stays behind to teach, while the others move around to other groups, • Finally, they return to teach the teacher.

  6. Teacher Voting • Instructions: • Give the students a success criteria for effective teaching, and allow them time to practice the skills, • Have them rate each other on effectiveness of teaching, with the best teacher (as voted by them) winning a prize at the end of the lesson.

Teacher Voting • Explaining: • Talks enthusiastically • Explains clearly • Uses pictures and examples to aid teaching • Checking: • Stops to check that everyone is following along • Makes sure their explanation is clear to everyone • Testing: • Asks three questions to check that everyone understands • Gives more help if someone gets one wrong. • Task: You have three minutes to plan out teaching your partner to: • Make a cup of tea • Navigate the route from your house to school • Use the planning sheet to help with your teaching
