Applying CTM--Expectations-- • A positive purpose: • “We have room standard because…..” • “…it sets us apart, how?” • “Attention to detail” • “Uniformity” • “Care of goods/resources” • “Pride” • “Health and hygiene” • Team work
Applying CTM--Expectations-- • Obligation with specificity: • “Here’s how we’re going to build to room standard….” • halfpress full press bed then….. • Leader role: • “Here’s how I support this effort • Inspect to standard every room • “I’m going to use my room as THE example daily” ***Concept of keeping cadre rodeo room***
Applying CTM--Skills-- DISCUSS SUGGESTIONS ON NEXT SLIDE • Model the skill: • Teach rehearsal skills (i.e., how to learn it):
Applying CTM--Skills-- • Model the skill: • “We’re going to use my room to learn the halfpress” • “We’re going to do everythign together….roll socks, (technique).” • Teach rehearsal skills (i.e., how to learn it): • Use white book handout to review setup your room (provide handbook w/ reference) • “We’re going to stay on schedule with what we work on in the room…” • “Roommates out to be cross checking roommates” ….”it’s OUR room!” • We build habits through repetition • Tornado-ing a room is NOT/NEVER appropriate
Applying CTM--Feedback-- Everyone Deserves Feedback DISCUSS SUGGESTIONS ON NEXT SLIDE • Create opportunities for feedback • Be professional & respectful; focus on behavior
Applying CTM--Feedback-- • Create opportunities for feedback • Schedule time to come back and check (deliberate action) • We’re going to bring other leaders into the room to maximize leadership feedback • “We’re going to show you again” • Every one deserves feedback • Be professional & respectful; focus on behavior • “We’re going to be critical and tough to the standards…” • “Because attention to detail matters…..we are NOT College of Charleston” • All feedback should be relevant
Applying CTM--Consequences-- Consequences Always Have A Purpose & Help Develop the Habits/Behavior We Want DISCUSS SUGGESTIONS ON NEXT SLIDE • Immediate & Purposeful • Leader follow up
Applying CTM--Consequences-- • Immediate & Purposeful • “We’re doing good gang… • “I’m going to invite the commander over to inspect your room…” • “we’re going to compete against the other squad” • We’re going to assist another squad • We’re going to accelerate the learning • We’re adding some time to your water break • OR “We’re not where we need to be… • “Here’s what is incorrect, here’s what right looks like, lets do it together, now you do it….” • Retraining will be at……” • Reinspect will be at……”
Applying CTM--Consequences-- • Leader follow up • If I say I’m coming back, I am • I’m coming back because I want to see you succeed (power of reinforcement)
Applying CTM--Growth-- DISCUSS SUGGESTIONS ON NEXT SLIDE For Challenge Week… • It’s all about challenging with purpose… • Goals to stretch: • Homework to improve deficiencies: • Small victories instill pride, commitment, willingness to strive for more
Applying CTM--Growth-- For Challenge Week… • It’s all about challenging with purpose… • “Got it, maintain it, we’re moving on to the racks” • Homework: “Specifically I want you to __________” • Our priorities are 1)…..2)…..3)…… • Small victories instill pride, commitment, willingness to strive for more • Maintaining room standards are one part of the overall experience that sets us apart from all other colleges
