Raindrops on a Briar A briar is a stem of a plant that has thorns on it. If you look at the briar it looks like nothing is happening but if you look at it closely there’s movement.
Language • Imagery: throughout the poem he talks about paints which helps the reader visualize what Williams was trying to say • Metaphor: “Pregnant motion” (stanza 4, line 2) • Similes: “in space as if they had been-” (stanza 3) “the arching stems irregularly as an accompaniment” (stanza 5)
