  2. Objectives Students will: • Identify verb phrases with the helping verb “have.” • Use the correct form of the helping verbs “could, should, would, and must.”

  3. Rules • A main verb can have more than one helping verb. • The helping verb “have” is often used with the helping verbs “could, would, should, and must.” • Could have, would have, should have, and must have. • The two helping verbs and the main verb form a verb phrases.

  4. Could have Would have Should have Must have Could’ve Would’ve Should’ve Must’ve These helping verbs are often spoken as contractions.

  5. Rules • Do not use “of” with could, would, should, or must. • Incorrect: • You should of seen the parade last weekend. • Correct: • You should have seen the parade last weekend.

  6.
