his colonial mansion was built in 1900 by Sir Herbert Baker for Malcolm William Searle, the first Judge President of the Cape. Over the years Highlands has been host to many famous and colourful characters of the time - Arthur Conan Doyle, Oliver Schreiner, Percy Fitzpatrick… and many a discerning hotel guest since. Judge Searle's grandson still lives close by and has donated many items of family memorabilia.

Individually arranged, personally catered. For groups of 12 people or less we recommend the Boardroom with its long sash windows and unique stylish table. Coffee & snacks are served in the adjacent lounge or on the terrace, lunch in the dining room.
Larger groups can now enjoy the stunning Baker Room. Double doors & sliding windows open onto a private courtyard with water feature. Purpose built with retractable screen & air conditioning, this room can be set up in the style most suitable for the meeting, seating up to 25 people. Morning coffee & breaks are taken in the adjoining colonial lounge and courtyard, indeed Highlands has many areas that are ideally suited for break out sessions and workshops.
