G. Schneider Next Steps and Priorities BI Beamline Operational Spares Strategy G. Schneider BE-BI
Next Steps and Priorities • Complete identification of • What do we have? • Proirities • What do weneed? • Logistics • How canwe organise it? • Nextsteps • Identifyrequiredmanpower, cost and time G. Schneider BE-BI
Tour machines to confirm the installed equipment AD, N-Tof, SPS and LHC still missing; Linac 2 and 3 only partially accessible Help from experts needed • Tour stores in 879, 955 and 954 Classify equipment under BI-ML responsibility Help from experts needed • Label components with Functional Position and where possible with MTF labels What do we have?Continue Identification of Installed Equipment G. Schneider BE-BI
What do we have?Complete OP lists • Priority on LHC injector chain instruments LINAC 2, LINAC 3 and LEIR are still missing • Complete other machines: AD, N-Tof, North area, ISOLDE… G. Schneider BE-BI
What do we have?Drawing availability • Missing drawings available on paper? • Missing drawings available on Microfilm? G. Schneider BE-BI
What do we need?Establish breakdown riskof instrument Take into consideration: • Moving bellows • Static bellows • Ceramic feedthroughs • Motorisation and drives G. Schneider BE-BI
What do we need?Establish risk matrixby comparing OP impactversus failure risk G. Schneider BE-BI
What do we need?Drawing Availability Bring drawings in CDD with agreed Equipment Code: • Scan microfilm according to priority list • Top assemblies • Detailed drawings • Check with colleagues if paper drawings are available • Make transfer into CDD G. Schneider BE-BI
How can we organise it?Enter components is System G. Schneider BE-BI
How can we organise it?Enter components is System G. Schneider BE-BI
How can we organise it?Let the system know what and where you have e.g. bananas (or motor, screen, BPM…) Pre-requirements: Drawing or description • MTF (Manufacturing and Test file) is the interface for machined or assembled components • EAM light(Enterprise Asset Management) is the interface for stores management • Both MTF or EAM come from the same database Industry started to do this 20 years ago: ISO 9000 G. Schneider BE-BI
How can we organise it?What is the big job? • Know what you have installed where • Know what is the corresponding drawing including sub-assemblies • Know what you have in stock G. Schneider BE-BI
How can we organise it?What do we need? • Some infrastructure • Agreed storage spaces Everybody stores equipment in the office, local store or lab, centralised lab, which combination? • Think to which level you want to go with the stores and stock management • Training and agree to use the system both for newcomers and experienced staff G. Schneider BE-BI

Next Steps1. Be ready for corrective maintenance • Make priority list of instruments following risk matrix • Project planning: • Estimate design and design management manpower needed • Establish list of components to be ready on shelf • Establish list of vacuum replacement chambers • Estimate the cost From experience from TE-VSC and EN-HE: Several years in time and 5 to 10 man-years • Project execution • Ensure drawing availability for Performance, Set-up and Operational instruments • Identify or procure spare vacuum chambers • On-shelf availability for critical components • Set-up stores management system: Know where everything is kept • Removal of obsolete instruments from machines G. Schneider BE-BI
Next Steps2. Work towards preventive maintenance • Collect data on instrument usage • Movements • Service intervals • Replacement intervals • Integral radiation dose • Stores system G. Schneider BE-BI
