  2. Hawaiian Historical Society Dedicated to preserving historical materials relating to Hawai‘i and to publishing scholarly research on Hawaiian history. The Society’s interests broadened to include the Pacific region and Hawai‘i’s role within it.

  4. Sheet Music & Song Book Collection

  5. Sheet Music & Song Book Collection: Finding Aid Updating current finding aid Accounted for new and old entries Took photos to accompany finding aid once uploaded online

  6. Sheet Music & Song Book Collection: Preservation Re-housed all single sheet pieces of sheet music into Polypropylene (Mylar) sleeves Created temporary housing for some songbooks using archival paper and mylar

  7. Sheet Music & Song Book Collection: Cataloging Library world open access platform for cataloging Only song books were cataloged fully, both copy and original cataloging done Labels generated

  8. What role did I play? • Work station was at reference desk in reading room • Ask people to sign in, fill out researchers agreement, lock bags in lockers etc. • Assisted patrons with basic reference questions, • Re-shelved used materials • Attended board & committee meetings

  9. What I learned? Library Administrative • Better knowledge of Hawaiian History resources • Finding Aids/ Cataloging • More acquainted with Dewey Decimal system cataloging • Understanding the logistics of a Non-Profit • Board Meetings/Fulfilling mission • Various Admin duties outside of the library • Calendar Editing • Annual Appeal • Mailing & Ordering • Creating Newsletter

Personal & Professional Accomplishments Personal Accomplishments • Feel more confident in cataloging • Better understanding of content management systems • Exposure to more Hawaiian resources and how to use them Professional Accomplishments • Establishing connections with other professionals at the society, at board meetings, and with patrons • Understanding inner working of a small organization: Managerial, Financial, Organizational etc.

Evaluation of Experience • Pros • Collection I am interested in • Saw one large project all the way through • Experienced the inner workings of a small special library • Overall • Felt that I was able to contribute my knowledge to the library by assisting in various projects. • Working with and learning about Hawaiian resources. • Librarian has a wealth of knowledge of Hawaiian resources and has a strong professional philosophy • Cons • Specialized, mainly academic patronage
