Adopting- Pet adoption is the process of taking up the responsibility of an animal that has been given up, injured or in need. Adopting a pet means that you are giving a dog a forever home. Fostering- Fostering a pet provides them with temporary care and shelter before adoption. The foster parents act as a temporary guardian to the animal in need. Once they find a good home for them, the animals leave the care of their foster parents and go with their adoptive parents.
The Indian State of Affairs Hundreds of pets across India are abandoned and rescued everyday. The pet population in India has grown from 7 million in 2006 to 10 million in 2011. On an average 600,000 pets are adopted every year. The concept of adopting dogs has always been a part of India, be it from the streets itself or from shelters. They are there because of some defect or behaviour issues. Fact- Animals end up on streets and shelters due to no fault of theirs. They are usually abandoned by breeders or people who are no longer able to take care of them. Myth- Rescue dogs will require more training. Fact- They require the same amount of training as a dog bought from a pet store or breeder would. Each dog is unique and come with certain personalities traits, where they come from does not matter.
