BYOT - Bring Your Own Technology by: Karen Dean www.classjump.com/karendean
What is BYOT? Bring your own technology programs, sometimes called bring your own device (BYOD), allow students to use their own devices, such as smart phones, ipods, ipads, tablets, etc., to aid learning and instruction in the classroom.
Voice Recordings Students can record themselves on their devices. This is a great resource if you don't have access to a foreign language lab. Students speak the target language and replay it. They can replay it for themselves, partners, the whole class, or the teacher. This can be done even if your school does not have Wi-Fi.
QR Codes Quick Response (QR) codes are easy to use because all students need is a smart phone or ipod with a camera and a QR code reader app installed. https://qrcode.kaywa.com/
Ideas for QR codes Link to a website - You can link any website, so students just scan the code to open the site. Scavenger Hunt - Students scan the codes at each stop to get the next clue, location, etc. Link to student projects – When you have students create prezis, vokis, etc., have them create a QR code so all students can quickly access the projects.
Ideas for QR Codes Recordings - Create a recording in the target language. Students scan the QR code to hear the recording. http://qrvoice.net/ Enhance assignments - Include QR codes on handouts or in power points so students can scan them to visit websites that offer further explanation, videos, practice activities, etc. Interactive Bulletin Boards –Many different ways to use this. One example is to place QR codes next to pictures of artists so studetns can learn more about them and see their works of art.
