3003Aluminum Properties Abstract: As a common aluminum alloy, 3003 aluminum sheet is of excellent anti-rust, welding and corrosion resistant performance. Its common tempers are O/H14/H24. Different tempers has a little difference. What are its difference from 1060 and 3004? Welcome to read this page. 3003 h14 Aluminum Properties The 3003 aluminum plate is a kind of Al-Mn aluminum alloy sheet, the most widely used anti-rust aluminum. The general hardness of 3003 aluminum plate is about 10% higher than that of the 1060 aluminum plate. The annealing temper of the 3003 aluminum sheet is also a key point that determines the hardness of aluminum such as h14, h24, h18 and h22. Since it can only be work hardened, 3003 is usually supplied in H temper. H indicates the temper of cold work hardening and the following
numbers indicate different degrees and types of cold work hardening, The tensile strength of 3003-H14 aluminum sheet is greater than 140MPa, while H24 is 240MPa. The hardness of 3003 H14 aluminum is 120% of 3003 H24. What are the 3003 h14 aluminum properties? The 3003 h14 aluminum sheet is of excellent corrosion resistance, which is close to that of industrial pure aluminum. It has good corrosion resistance to the atmosphere, fresh water, sea water, food, organic acid, gasoline, neutral inorganic salt solution and dilute acid. he 3003 H14 aluminum is used for processing parts that require good formability, high corrosion resistance and good weldability and higher strength than 1000 aluminum such as kitchenware, food and chemical product processing and storage devices, tanks , various pressure vessels, heat sinks, etc. 3003 H14 Aluminum Sheet V3003 H24 As a well known grade of the 3000 aluminum plate, the 3003 aluminum plate is widely used, especially the 3003 H14 and 3003 h24. However, many customers don’t have a clear understanding of their processing craft. Today, Haomei Aluminum will give a detailed introduction to the difference between these two processes. What is 3003 aluminum plate The 3003 aluminum plate is a popular anti-rust aluminum plate. The aluminum content is about 98%, and the manganese content is about 1.0-1.6. In addition, the strength of the 3003 aluminum plate is higher than that of the 1060 aluminum plate. And it has better performance in the face of cold changes. Properties of the 3003 h14 and 3003 h24 H14 and H24 are two commonly used tempers of the 3003 aluminum sheet. They have many common points: they will not crack when bent 90 degree. Their tensile strength, elongation, and corrosion resistance are basically the same. Besides, their surface treatment process and surface samples are basically the same. So what is the difference between them? 3003 H24 Aluminum The manufacturing process: cast-rolling- annealing---finished product packaging It is a more commonly used one-time annealing processing. The surface is not with much oil and the quality is stable. 3003 H14 aluminum sheet The manufacturing process: Cast-rolling--- annealing--cold-rolling--package of finished products It belongs to re-rolling after annealing. Those application that has high requirements on the shape of the 3003 aluminum sheet will prefer this processing.
3003 O Temper Aluminum Sheet Alloy 3003 is the most common alloy grade in the aluminum-manganese alloy series with a manganese content of about 1.2-1.5%. Therefore, the hardness of 3003 aluminum plate is harder than that of 1000 series aluminum plate. However, the annealing state of the alloy 3003 is also a key point that determines the aluminum sheet hardness. The common tempers of alloy 3003 are H24, H14, H22,H18 and O. H indicates the temper of cold work hardening and the following numbers indicate different degrees and types of cold work hardening. Of them, 3003 H18 is with high hardness while the 3003 O temper aluminum sheet is of low hardness. The 3003 O temper is with the longest annealing time, about 20 hours. Each temper is for meeting different needs. Machinability of the softer tempers O and H12 is poor, with the harder tempers such as H14 and above being somewhat easier to machine. Yet their corrosion resistance and rust proof performance is as excellent as other tempers. 3003 O temper sheet is suitable for stamping, spinning, stretching, etc. For those products
requiring stamping and excellent anti-rust performance, 3003 O temper aluminum is an ideal choice. 3003-O plain sheet is often further processed into 3003 aluminum tread plate, which is often used in decorative architectural applications, due to its bright reflective finish. It is usually produced in a “1-bar” or “propeller” tread pattern. Alloy 3003 aluminum sheet is often used for the manufacturing of the cooking utensils, decorative trim, awnings, siding, storage tanks and chemical equipment. 3003 Aluminum Properties: Good for Anodizing? Can alloy 3003 be used to make the anodised aluminium sheet? According to the 3003 aluminum properties, 3003 aluminum sheet can be anodized, but it is not recommended to do it because the effect is very poor. 3003 aluminum sheet is divided into cold-rolled aluminum plate and hot-rolled aluminum plate. For the anodizing, the hot-rolled 3003 aluminum sheet is much better than cold-rolled 300 aluminum sheet. However, we still do not recommend using 3003 aluminum for anodizing. Because 3003
aluminum plate is basically the same as 1060 aluminum plate in the general uses, except for special applications. The hardness of alloy 3003 is better than that of 1060 aluminum plate, but the anodizing effect of the 1060 aluminum plate is much better. Considering the processing cost, we still don’t recommend using 3003 aluminum alloy. At present, the processing cost of 3003 aluminum plate is about 290$ while the processing cost of the hot rolled aluminum alloy 3003 is about 520$. If we use the 3003 aluminum sheet for anodizing, the production cost is much higher. In addition, since the 3003 aluminum sheet has higher hardness, the stamping performance of the alloy 3003 is not so good after anodizing. But for the most anodised aluminum sheet, they are used to be further processed by the forging processes such as stamping and stretching. If it is not mandatory or necessary, it is recommended to use 1060 aluminum plate for anodizing. 1060 Aluminum vs. 3003 Aluminum 1060 and 3003 aluminum sheet are two commonly used aluminum sheets, but they have different properties and applications. How to distinguish them by some simple methods? Haomei Aluminum tells you. Surface color Since the 3003 aluminum contains about 1.0-1.8% of manganese, the surface of the 3003 aluminum sheet will be grayish, especially under the outdoor sunlight. The 1060 aluminum belong to pure aluminum, which has a bright color. Hardness With the same temper, the 3003 aluminum is much harder than the 1060 aluminum. If you have a hardness testing instrument, you can clearly find this point. The hardness of the 3003 aluminum plate is generally in the range of 30-35. But because the 1060 aluminum plate contains as much as 99.60% aluminum, the 1060 aluminum is about 10% softer than the 3003 aluminum. Spectrometer It is a normal way to use spectrometer data to analyze 3003 and 1060 aluminum. This is a relatively fast and the most formal and stable analysis method among these several methods. Typical applications The 3003 aluminum plate is suitable for building exterior walls, automobile lining, bus bottom lining, product packaging, etc. The 1060 aluminum is more commonly used in such fields like pipe insulation, ceiling, lamp stamping, transformer winding, etc. Alloy 3003 vs Alloy 3004 With higher pursuit of the aluminum sheet properties, the demand for alloy 3003 and 3004 both keeps increasing. There is more demand for 3004 aluminum plates especially for the factory
projects. Alloy 3003 is the the most commonly used product in terms of sales volume and user acceptance. It has excellent anti-rust performance, good forming performance and high hardness. The high-speed traffic signs, building signs, high-speed barriers, building shells, etc., are all its popular applications. Alloy 3004 basically has the same requirements in all aspects with the 3003 aluminum plate, but its strength is higher than that of alloy 3003. 3004 aluminum sheet is of the better formability, solubility, corrosion resistance. That’s why many projects gradually abandon 3003 aluminum sheet to choose 3004 aluminum sheet. Alloy 3003 VS Alloy 3004 Chemical element The chemical composition "Mg element" of 3004 aluminum plate is much higher than that of 3003 aluminum plate. At the same time, “magnesium element” is also the item with the biggest difference in chemical composition between 3003 aluminum plate and 3004 aluminum plate. 3003 aluminum properties V 3004 Item Tensile strength Yield Density
(Rm/MPa) strength(Rp0.2/MPa) 150~285 110 Alloy 3003 142-178 2.71 Alloy 3004 150-285 Most of alloy 3004 are made by hot rolling, so the price of 3004 aluminum sheet is much more expensive than 3003 aluminum sheet. As a big aluminum sheet supplier, Haomei Aluminum has both of them.
