INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION • The Industrial Revolution took place in the 18th Century PEOPLE- 1770s (White, n.d) • Factories were opened • As a result, more work was created • Influx of people to cities

INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION NOTTINGHAM- 1770s • As a result of the influx, there was overpopulation in the city, poverty increases (White, n.d) • Boost of Iron (1907) and Brick (mid 19th Century) Industry (Spence, Bishop, n.d, pp. 4-5)
INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION • 1796- The Nottingham Canal was built and was used to transport coal (used to power engines) (Spence, Bishop, n.d, p. 2) Nottingham Federation of Anglers, n.d. Nottingham Canal.
INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION ZARA • 19th Century- As a result of the boost in the Brick Industry, it was easy to supply finished clay to local area in Nottingham (Spence, Bishop, n.d, p.4)

STYLE PEOPLE • The people of Nottingham had to get used to the style of the Zara Building and adapt to the decorative changes.
STYLE NOTTINGHAM • Easy access to materials locally produced in Nottingham (Spence, Bishop, n.d, p.4). Materials locally produced were less expensive.
STYLE ZARA • As a result, materials were less expensive. Large amounts of glass was used • Art Nouveau style spread in England (Benton, 1979) • It attracted more customers from the “middle class” (Marchant, 1999, Introduction)
COMPANY DEVELOPMENT 1892- Boots moved from Goose Gate to High/Pelham Street, a bigger store that accommodated more departmental stores (Weir, 1994, p.32) PEOPLE • The people of Nottingham has easy access to more as well as cheap drugs (Beckett, 2006) • Weir, 2016. COMPANY DEVELOPMENT NOTTINGHAM • During the Industrial revolution, people were deprived of basic amenities • Boots provided education and gave free meals to young employees (Boots Archives, 2010, p.9). • He contributed over 440,000 pounds to the development of University of Nottingham’s campus (University of Nottingham, n.d) Picture: Newton, 2015. COMPANY DEVELOPMENT ZARA • Zara now occupies the Pelham Street site even though Boots moved in 1972 to its Victoria Centre site (Horne, 1972)
