Isotope worksheet Define isotope Isotopes are elements with the same number of protons and electrons but the number of neutrons differ from the average amount. OR Its an atom that has more or less the average number of neutrons in the nucleus of an atom The mass on the periodic table are the atomic masses, what if I have an atom that does not match the periodic table for that particular element- what does this mean? Its an isotope

4. How can hydrogen-1, hydrogen-2 and hydrogen-3 all be the same element? They all have 1 proton and 1 electron but the number of neutrons are different.
5. List two ways that a proton differs from an electron. Protons are positive and in the nucleus Electrons are negative and orbits the nucleus
6. List two ways that a neutron and proton differ from each other and two ways they are similar. Protons are positive charge and have the same amount of electrons. Neutrons have no charge and the amount can change – isotopes Protons and neutrons are similar in mass and both are in the nucleus.
7. How many neutrons and protons are in each of the following isotopes? a) Carbon – 15 b) Nickel-63 c) Oxygen-18 d) Iron-54 p = 6 and n = 9 p = 28 and n = 35 p = 26 and n = 28 p = 8 and n = 10
