  2. asset An asset is a resource, person, or object that is valuable to have. How is sunscreen an asset on a sunny beach? Turn and tell your partner. Form your sentence like this: “Sunscreen is an asset on a sunny beach because …”

  3. intently When you do something intently, you do it with great concentration. How would someone intently watching a movie behave? 1. talk a lot to the people around them 2. watch the movie very attentively

  4. profusely Something done profusely is done in great quantity. Would you expect someone who talks profusely to say… 1. a lot? 2. a little?

  5. ordeal An ordeal is a very difficult experience that is unpleasant to go through. Why would pedaling a bike up a steep hill be an ordeal? 1. It takes a lot of effort. 2. It takes very little effort.

  6. terrain Terrain is the kind of land that is found in a place; for example, terrain might be rocky, hilly, or swampy. How would you describe the terrain in a desert? Turn and tell your partner. Begin your sentence like this: “I think the terrain in a desert would be _______ because …”

  7. dismal Something that is dismal is bleak and depressing. If you have a dismal look on your face, are you most likely having a 1. good day? 2. bad day?

  8. peril Peril is great danger. Could not looking both ways before crossing a street put someone in peril? Thumbs up=yes; Thumbs down=no Turn and explain to your partner.   9. esteem To esteem something means to judge it to be of value. How could you show you esteem someone? 1. ignore them 2. listen respectfully to them
