  3. We are going to use ballpark estimates to arrive at your final answer. 25 30 71 70 After we are done making ballpark estimates we will use a calculator to check our answer.

  4. What do we know? Americans eat 27 lbs of bananas every year. Ballpark estimate: 27 30 • We know there are 20 students in our class. Do we need to change 20 into a ballpark estimate? No • So how many bananas is that per year? 20 * 30 = 600 bananas Let’s check our answer on a calculator About how many bananas might the students in our class eat in one year?

  5. What do we know? Americans drink 350 glasses of milk a year. Do we need to change 350 into a ballpark estimate? No • We know that there are 86 fourth graders at Link School. Do we need to change 86 into a ballpark estimate? • 90 • So how many glasses of milk is that per year? 350 * 90 300 * 90 = 27,000 50 *90 = 4,500 27,000 +4,500= 31,500 About how many glasses of milk might all the fourth grade students in our school drink in one year?
