What is Mobile Xhosa? Mobile Xhosa is a resource for South African Health Care Workers - free and right on their cellphones - that will assist them when communicating with Xhosa-speaking patients. There are two parts: • “Modules”: sections with commonly asked questions and their Xhosa translations. • English-Xhosa Dictionary
Step 3: Type in Mobile Xhosa’s address: mobilexhosa.org.za Step 4: Press enter.
Step 5: Decide on the type of question you would like to ask and select the relevant category. For example, if you wish to ask questions about the patient’s Cardiovascular History, press that icon.
Relevant English questions and their Xhosa translations are provided. Scroll to find the question you want to ask.
To access the English-Xhosa dictionary: Step 1: Press the “Translate” tab.
Step 2: Select whether you would like to translate from English to Xhosa or Xhosa to English by selecting the relevant option.
Step 4: Enter your word. Step 5: Press enter.

The Fine Print • Pronunciation in English and Xhosa are not the same. The clicks - ‘c’, ‘q’ and ‘x’ - are most well known, but other differences also exist, such as ‘hl’. As such, some formal classes in Xhosa are necessary before using Mobile Xhosa to prevent misunderstandings. • Mobile Xhosa is not intended as a source of medical knowledge and the accuracy of any such information presented can not be guaranteed.
