THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE AIR PRODUCTS CASE STUDY WERE: 1. TO SHOW HOW A GLOBAL MULTIBILLION-DOLLAR CHEMICAL INDUSTRY IS TRYING TO USE THE INTERNET AS: a) A CUTTING-EDGE MARKETING APPROACH AIMED AT ITS HIGH-TECH CUSTOMERS, AND b) AN ORGANIZATION-WIDE INTERNAL COMMUNICATION INFRASTRUCTURE 2. THE CASE HIGHLIGHTS THE MANAGERIAL CHALLENGES OF INSTITUTIONALIZING AN EXTERNAL AND AN INTERNAL INTERNET STRATEGIES. 3. A KEY PROBLEM REVEALED IS THAT THE IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY FOLLOWED HAS NOT YET ADDRESS THE ORGANIZATIONAL TRANSFORMATION THAT IS REQUIRED.
