ASPERA • ERA-NET: Network of funding agencies • EC funded since July 2006 • extended for 3 years in July 2009 • 22 partners from 16 countries
ARRS, BMBF, CEA, CERN, CNRS, DEMOKRITOS, FCT, FRS-FNRS, FOM, FWO, FZU, IFIN-HH, INFN, MICINN, NKTH, MEYS, NCBIR, NZZ, PT-DESY, SNF, STFC, VR ASPERA-2 – the consortium
Astroparticle Physics - Science Seven sub fields: • High Energy Gamma Rays • Neutrino Mass • High Energy Cosmic Rays • High Energy Cosmic Neutrinos • Dark Matter direct detection • Gravitational Waves • Low Energy Neutrinos & Proton decay
ASPERA Roadmap ASPERA organised: • 6 topical workshops (2005-2006) • 7 working groups (2006-2007) • Meetings on Theory, R&D, Computing • 3 large symposia in 2006, 2007, 2008
ASPERA Roadmap Results: • 2 main documents 1. Science vision 2. Priorities • Special document on R&D and knowledge transfer • Discussions on therole of Theory
European priorities in Astroparticle Physics 1 ton Dark Matter Detector CTA Einstein Telescope AUGER-N KM3NET MegatonProton Decay + Neutrino Detector 1 ton Neutrino mass Detector
Study funding and evaluation • Questionnaires & National days • National days (an ASPERA success story): Organisation of 12 National Days, 2-4 to come • Comparison of funding systems, decision making, and evaluation => ways to synchronize funding decisions
Study funding and evaluation In 2006: • 70 Mio € investment • More than 2300 FTE Update is planned for ASPERA-2
ASPERA – common call • Launched on April 4, 2009 • Deadline: June 4, 2009 • First funding in October 2009 • Priorities: R&D for CTA & direct DM search • 9 agencies participating • Virtual pot of 3.7 M€ • 5 proposals (CTA + 4 DM: 7 M€) submitted
ASPERA – common call Two more calls to come in ASPERA-2
ASPERA – proactive support Linking of Existing Infrastructure: • Existing institutions in Europe with ApP interests • What support can existing institutions offer? technical support, workshop capacity, managerial support, expertise, … • Best practice in Science Project Management Learn from others: Auger, IceCube, Katrin, …
website newsletter ASPERA „Interfaces“ • Website: www.aspera-eu.org • Newsletter: see website • Contact office: aspera@desy.de • Information visits • Information links to key persons • Participation in the network
ASPERA – why talk to others? • Increase the level of interdisciplinarity • Develop further astroparticle physics as an interdisciplinary field • Synergies • Share costs • Increase impact to the society

ASPERA and beyond OECD Global Science Forum - Working group on Astroparticle Physics • Two meetings in Paris and Krakow • Interims report accepted by Global Science Forum • Three scientific meetings planed:- “cosmic rays” in Europe, January 2010 to be organized by Christian Spiering- other topics covered by meetings in the U.S. and Japan
ASPERA and beyond ApPEC • Started to discuss its long-term future ESFRI • Nothing really new • Will be happy when projects can be taken from the roadmap after successful start of construction
ASPERA … … wishes Good Luck! Thanks for your attention!
