Booster Commissioning • Blue: Dipole Field • Yellow: PCT average current – 8 mA • Green: FCTpeak current – 40 mA injected, 20 mA extracted
CLS Storage Ring • 2.9 GeV DBA lattice with 12-fold period • 170.88 m circumference • Nominal Tune: x = 10.22 y = 3.26 • Eloss per turn: > 0.876 MeV • Bend magnet radiation: c = 1.6 Å Ec = 7.6 keV • x (natural damped) = 18.1 nm•rad • Damping times: • x = 2.4 ms, y = 3.8 ms, E = 2.7 ms • ~10 mm bunch length
Commissioning Plan • 4-week Runs: 2 installation + 2 run • Started 2003 September • Initial sequence: • First turn • Stored beam • Stacked beam • Vacuum conditioning • Radiation survey for licensing • Goal: • 100 mA • > 6 hour lifetime • Good reliability and stability

Storage Ring Commissioning – Run 2 • Green: Storage ring current Measured 2003-10-25
Storage Ring Commissioning – Run 3 • Green: Booster beam • Pink: SR1 beam loss measured by CBLM Measured 2003-11-14
Plan for 2004 • Q1: • SGM/PGM front-ends, POE and IDs • Optical chicanes for IR lines • Start of day-time operation • Q2: • SM and PX front-ends, POEs and IDs • XAFS front-end and POE • Q3: • XAFS wiggler • Tentative start of 24-hour operation • Q4: • Increase current to 200 mA and lifetime to ~10 h
