National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) • Screening programs funded in all 50 states, DC, 4 US territories, and 12 American Indian/Alaska Native organizations • Provides breast and cervical cancer screening & diagnosis to low-income, uninsured and underinsured women • Services include • Clinical breast examination; Mammograms; Pap tests, Diagnostic testing for women with abnormal results; Surgical consultation; Referrals to treatment • Approximately 5% of women screened through NBCCEDP are AI/AN women • Technical assistance to increase breast and cervical cancer screening for tribes and states with large native populations

National Colorectal Cancer Program (NCCP) • Fund programs in 26 states and 4 tribal organizations • Population-based approach to increase screening rates to at least 80% by 2014 • Integrated with public education campaign, Screen for Life, to increase awareness of the importance of screening • 2005: AI/ANs had second highest incident rate for colorectal cancer • Routine screening can prevent cancer

DCPC Cooperative Agreement – “Collaborative Partnerships in Cancer Prevention and Control Program for AI/AN People” • 5 year grant awarded to Native American Cancer Research Corporation (NACR) in Denver • Will implement and evaluation 10 regional planning conferences focused on state, local and tribal cancer collaboration • 2 Regional Meetings this year • Northwest: Washington, Oregon & Idaho • Northern Plains: South & North Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Montana, and Wyoming

12. DCPC Cooperative Agreement – “WEAVING Resources for Urban Indian Women’s Wellness” • 3 year grant awarded to Urban Indian Health Institute (UIHI) in Seattle • Goal of the WEAVING Project is to help increase the number of urban AI/AN women receiving breast and cervical cancer screening services. • Focus on developing program materials and toolkits accessible and sustainable

13. CCC Tribal BRFSS Project • Special project to collect tribal or tribal organization specific BRFSS data through in-person surveys • Work through the Tribal Epi Centers (TECs) • Year 1 is planning • Anticipate 3 programs to be funded

14. DCPC Breast Cancer in Young WomenAI/AN Project – “Walking Together: Making a Path Toward Healing” • New funding to develop and implement a national educational campaign about breast cancer in young women • AI/AN Project is a collaborative between IHS Phoenix Indian Medical Center & DCPC • Focus groups will identify barriers to care physically, psychologically and spiritually • Recommendations will be developed to improve cancer care services for AI/AN young women

15. CDC Tribal Consultation Policy • Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) requires all agencies to develop & implement • Office of the Director, through the Office of State, Tribal, Local & Territorial Support (OSTLTS) is responsible to implement • Currently under revision
