Please pick up your second rough draft from the middle table!
On a sheet of paper… • Write your name • Indicate three strengths in your paper • Indicate three areas of refinement • If you had to turn your essay in today, what grade would you give yourself? • If you had 30 minutes to transition this from your second draft to your final essay, what would you change or fix about your essay? • Rate the effectiveness of using vocabulary words in your paper: 1 – 5 • How solid is your solution? • How many paragraphs do you have? • How many sentences are in each paragraph?
On a sheet of paper… answer each question • Highlight your thesis statement: is it the last sentence of your introduction? • What is the topic of body paragraph 1? • How many quotes and/or paraphrases do you have in body paragraph 1? • Look at your last sentence of the first body paragraph – does it transition into the next paragraph? Answer questions 2-4 for each of your body paragraphs!
And lastly… • On the back of your actual essay, write a final “to-do” list for putting together your final copy!
Final Reminders… • This is a solution-based argument paper. You are persuading the audience to support your solution. • This is not a report or simply a research paper. It is an argument – your claim is your proposed solution and you are using research to support your argument. • You need to have at least one peer-reviewed source and one webpage. You MUST highlight your peer-reviewed source on your works cited page. • You need 3 quotes and 3 paraphrases • Your paper needs to be written in 3rd person and follow MLA format.
The Rubric… In order to know what each score point means you need to look at your Expanded Analytical Rubric. You were given this way back in August. If you are new to my class, this is on my website under writing resources!
The Rubric… If you no longer have the writing rubric (that you were given in August) you will want to review it from my website. This rubric tells you what each score point represents.
One last thing… • You will submit your final paper via turnitin.com ONLY. • Your final paper MUST include a works cited page! • Remember the penalties for LATE submissions! • It is due Monday February 24, 2014 @ 11:59 pm. • You will no longer bring me a hardcopy to grade in class. • If you think the vocabulary takes away from your paper’s success – take the words out. You will not be penalized. • Remember: 3 body paragraphs MAX and no more than 14 sentences in a single paragraph.
