The Successful “Learning Network” Needs an infrastructure to bring together like-minded individualsin an environment That is conducive to collaboration on issues, in order to produce successful outcomes
Who should be at the table? • All important stakeholders – think broadly • Those who can make a decision for the organization ? ? ? ? ? ?
When should they be involved? • At the very beginning • Throughout
What are the initial questions? • What do you need to know? • Specific questions?? • What decisions will it inform? • (Who will make those decisions?)
What information is needed? • Relevant • Accurate • Timely • Consistent (standards) • In a format they can use
Has the information been used? • What is the interpretation locally? • Follow-up • Be self-critical • Evaluate
“Knowledge Transfer” • It is NOT about information dissemination from a central source out to the users. • It starts with the user’s needs. • It is a dialogue and partnership. • Often human relationships.
Training Needs • Need redundancy of skills. • Further academic training in health protection available? • Who trains the lone epi?
History? • How do we preserve our history – data to organizations? • Libraries? • Documentation? • Will we repeat our mistakes?
Self Advocacy? • We need to let people know what we do, why and what effect? • Don’t assume people know the value of your work.
