6 Thinking Hats • When you completed the chocolate bar activity last lesson, did you find you missed out any important features? • This often happens with blue skies thinking • One solution in the 6 thinking hats
The 6 Hats Information Positive Negative Each person should put on one of the thinking hats, and consider the problem from a specific perspective Creative Emoional Big Picture
BLACK HAT The negative thinker What is wrong with this? What are the points of caution? What could some of the difficulties be?
YELLOW HAT The positive thinker Benefits and feasibility What are the good points? What are the different values? What are the reasons why an idea will work?
WHITE HAT The Fact Finder What facts and information available and needed? What information do we have? What other facts do we know? How do we get the information we need?
GREEN HAT The creative thinker Alternatives and creative ideas Are there other ways to do this? What else could we do?What are the possibilities?
RED HAT The emotional thinker Feelings and hunches What do I feel? Which idea do I like best? What do I feel about this idea?
BLUE HAT The Big Picture hat Organising and managing thinking What are we thinking about? What thinking has been done? What do we want?
Enterprise Task You need to get into groups of 2 or 3 • Scenario: Imagine you are stranded on a desert island. You have been stuck on the Island for a couple of days and no one has come to the rescue yet. You need to think of a way to: • Let people know you are there, • Try and escape • Survive the next few days. You have the following resources at your dispersal. Bed sheet 5 metres of rope Pile of stones Bucket Ladder Masking tape Music Player Scissors
Creative Thinking • You now know all about creative thinking techniques. • You must work as a team, and use some of these creative thinking techniques to find the most successful solution. • Will you.. • Write down every possibility, and then decide on the best? (Blue Skies Thinking) • Think completely out of the box and come up with something new and original (Lateral Thinking) • Consider all possibilities using the 6 thinking hats
Homework • Choose one of the 6 thinking hats. • Create an A4 poster on ONE hat • Include • The hat’s name • The hat’s perspective • Some questions the hat may ask.
