Training. Training is important to a business. To remain competitive a business must invest money into training its workers. They must get value for money from training their workers!!
Training. There are 3 objectives of training. • Induction training • Upgrading skills • Retraining
Training. • Induction Training. • Training that is given to new workers at the start of their jobs.
Training. • Retraining • Over time, jobs can change and sometimes people who have been out of work for a long time will need to re-learn skills.
Training. • Upgrading Skills. • Technology is always changing, so workers need to know how to use new systems.
Training can take place… • On the job. • By watching and learning from others.
Training can take place… • Off the job. • By attending a college to get new skills.
Types of training • Lectures • Used by universities to teach large number of students. These are cheap but there is little audience participation • Case Studies and Role Plays • These allow students to investigate a business activity. They are stimulating but can sometimes be unrealistic. • Personal Skills Development • This is general instruction on how to do an activity and learn a new skill. • Discovery • Students investigate something for themselves. This can be effective but takes too much time.
For training to be effective it must have clear objectives • It must • Give Knowledge • Change Attitudes • Increase Skills
Training. The government can help smaller businesses… • Flexible New Deal Giving help to 18-24 year olds to find a job, and paying businesses to employ them. • Investors In People • A status or award given to good employers who make training a priority.
