  2. Rifles Rifles were the main weapon used by British soldiers.

  3. Planes • Planes were used for the first time. • At first they were used to deliver bombs and for spying work but later it became a fighter aircraft armed with machine guns and bombs.

  4. Gas • The German army were the first to use chlorine gas at the battle in 1915. • Mustard gas was the most deadly weapon used.

  5. Aircrafts • Germans used zeppelins during the early part of the war.

  6. Submarines • Submarines were used to bomb other ships that were coming to their border.

  7. Masks • Soldiers wore masks to protect themselves from poisonous gases such as mustard gas.

  8. Grenades • Grenades are hollow iron balls filled with gunpowder.
