  2. What is L.A. DCFS Stipend Program? The L.A. DCFS Stipend Program is a specialized training program in public child welfare available through the MSW program. The University Consortium for Children and Families (UCCF) Training Project is a collaborative endeavor between the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and the graduate programs of social work at CSULB, UCLA, USC, CSULA, CSUN and CSUDH. The overall goal of this collaborative project is to increase the professional skills and knowledge of Los Angeles County public child welfare workers. The UCCF Training Project at CSULB is designed to prepare social work student interns in the most innovative and current programs at designated DCFS Regional Offices.

Why D.C.F.S. ? • Starting Pay Full time - $64,308.00 - $71,676.00 Annually (as of 3/15/19) • 20 offices in LA county (Santa Clarita to Pomona) • Largest Child welfare agency in the nation • Innovative problem solving (i.e.cultural brokerage program, drug court, Disproportionality, CPM) • Invaluable training experience • "A Day in the Life of a Social Worker"

  4. Program participants will receive… • Stipend of $ 37,000 paid out over 2-years of graduate studies • Specialized training in public child welfare • Field Experience in both community based agency & DCFS • Interview preparation assistance • Mentorship • Employment upon graduation

Program Requirements • Sign a contract to secure full-time employment with Los Angeles County’s Department of Children & Family Services for two (2) years post-graduation • Have a valid driver's license, current automobile insurance, and secure the use of a car as required by fieldwork • Complete pre-screening for county employment; including but not limited to Livescan, physical and psychological examinations • Successfully complete one year of fieldwork in a community based public child welfare agency and a second year in a Los Angeles County UCCF/DCFS placement. • Complete designated specialized training seminars • Elect the Child & Family Wellbeing as your specialization • Successfully complete SW 643 -Social Work practice within Child Welfare Services • Successfully complete the Master’s Thesis/Project with focus on child welfare population, issue, or area or service • Maintain a "B" (3.0) average • Complete and graduate from the MSW Program in the Child and Family Well-being specialization within normalized timeframe

  8. How to Apply • Complete the L.A. DCFS Stipend Program Application • Sign up for an interview • Submit the application by 5:00pm on Friday 3/29/19 to Phaedra Allen’s mailbox located in the School of Social Work office • Attach a 2x2 photo or copy of student ID to your application • Panel Interview • Notification of status
