WHY IS THE CULTURE PIECE SO IMPORTANT? You cannot teach language without teaching culture. Embracing Global Perspectives: How do we go from sandbox to sand castle? • Your classroom is a gold mine if you have global experiences and perspectives. Embrace them. • All students benefit from becoming familiar with global perspectives. • Getting insight from different parts of the world. • Knowing how to work with people from different backgrounds.
Solutions • Get to know your students. • Be curious about learning styles and expectations of different cultures. • Be open to discussion about classroom dynamics. • Find ways to mix up your groups. • Post discussion questions in advance so that students have time to prepare. • Allow moments of silence.
