Ms. Valerie Gresser • Teaches at Superstition Springs Elementary in Mesa, AZ. • Teaches first-grade. • Values technology in the classroom. • Vision for more technology in the classroom.
Vision for Her Classroom • She wanted to improve her students learning. • She knew that technology would help. • She wanted to create a 21st Century learning environment.
21st Century Learning • Students learn differently now than they did in the past. • They are more technology minded. • They are more hands on learning. • 21st Century Learning embraces the learning of todays students.
Technology • She had experience with technology at her previous school. • She wanted to bring more equipment so she could use more technology in her classroom. • She applied for a $20,000 technology grant.
Technology Grant • Scottsdale, AZ-based CCS Presentation Systems offering a technology grant. • Open grant, based on the teacher’s ability to design their ideal classroom. • The teacher had to incorporate various pieces of technology and show how they would be used. • She wrote up a plan and won the grant!
The New Classroom • Her new classroom was equipped with the following: • Ceiling-mounted projector • Interactive white board • Interactive electronic table for the students to input data • Document camera • Audio system • Two heavy duty color printers • Network wiring
Student Success • The students were more eager to learn. • They showed improvement in reading and math comprehension. • They students were more involved with learning. • The students were given digital cameras. • She taught an English lesson on nouns and allowed the students to take pictures of things around the room. Then they created a PowerPoint as a class where they uploaded the pictures that the students had taken.
Technology is IMPORTANT! • The addition of the technology and improvement of student performance, motivated senior staff to allow more funding in the technology budget. • It helped the students to learn and better performance.
