Sampling Area El-Max District Mediterranean Sea
Sea water samples were collected from the shore of El-Max District Area prior to the sampling from specific sea sites stations The sample was subjected to chemical analysis Enrichment cultivation of the bacteria was performed on natural and artificial sea water media on different hydrocarbons as well as crude petroleum oil as carbon source. Preliminary Analysis for Sea Water
Heavy metal analysis • The analysis of heavy metals were performed using • Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP)
Tests were carried out according to: Standard methods for the examination of water & waste water 21st edition 2005 Chemical analysis
Microscopic examination of growing bacteria after cultivation on different hydrocarbons Artificial sea water media with dibenzothiophene Artificial sea water media with octane Sea water media with pyrene
Core Facilities MuCSAT is a non-profit research organization.
Central labs are well equipped with all needed equipments for the analysis of water and sediment (HPLC, GC, GC-MS, water analysis lab, scanning electron microscope, atomic absorption, ICP, etc) • GEBRI laboratories are ready for all microbial cultivation and molecular biological methods (laminar flows, incubators, PCR machines, gel electrophoresis unit, DNA sequencer, real-time PCR)
جهاز الكروماتوجرافى الأيونى جهاز تحليل الأحماض النووية جهاز الكروماتوجرافى الغازى بمؤشر الطيف الكتلى

We had good experience in water sampling and isolation and cultivation of bacteria. • We are familiar with the extraction of DNA from environmental samples and identification on the basis of biochemical and molecular level. • We had good experience in identification of genes responsible for hydrocarbon degradation in prokaryotes. • We had good knowledge and experience in bioinformatics and data analysis using data bases and software. Staff previous experience
We a had conducted previous project funded from Egyptian Academy for Scientific Research entitled “Enhancing the biodegradation of oil spills and oil refinery byproducts using genetic engineering of indigenous microorganisms” In this project we were able to isolate microorganisms (bacteria, yeast and filamentous fungi) able to degrade and/or emulsify petroleum oil spills.
Optimization of the degradation process followed statistical-mathematical approach using Fractional Factorial Designs.
Different carriers were used to immobilize the cells for the application in a reactor
