  2. Safety Rules • When carrying sharp tools, keep the sharp edge away from you and others. • Know where to locate all first aid and emergency tools. • Horseplay and destructive behavior will not be tolerated.

  3. Safety Rules • Avoid contact of chemicals with your skin. • keep your hands away from your face and eyes • Read all instructions before using the chemicals.

  4. Safety Rules • Avoid inhaling chemical fumes • In case of emergency or accident, notify the instructor immediately. • Clean-up spills immediately

  5. Safety Rules • Read all instructions BEFORE using a tool or chemical. • If you are unsure of a chemical or tool ASK, before using.

  6. M.S.D.S. • Found in the bottom left drawer labeled MSDS • Material Safety Data Sheets • Provides information on each chemical found in this lab. • Includes information on chemical composition, hazards, first aid, fire fighting measures, storage, personal protection, properties, disposal considerations, reactivity, etc.

  7. P.P.E. Personal Protective Equipment • gloves • aprons • safety glasses • Provide protection against the chemicals used in this lab • You are not required to use PPE, although it is recommended

  8. Chemical First Aid The following slides will tell you what to do in case a chemical is ingested, inhaled, or comes into contact with your skin.

  9. Ilford Universal Paper Developer - Darkroom First Aid • Ingestion - Do not induce vomiting. Give the victim several glasses of water. Get medical attention immediately. • Skin – Wash infected area with soap and water. • Eyes – Promptly wash eyes with water at the eye wash station. Continue to rinse for 15 minutes. Get medical attention immediately.

  10. Porter’s DF-100 Black and White Film Developer - Film • Hydroquinone- A chemical developer. • First Aid • Ingestion - Induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately. • Skin – Wash infected area with soap and water. • Eyes – Promptly wash eyes with water at the eye wash station. Continue to rinse for 15 minutes. Get medical attention immediately.

  11. Kodak Indicator Stop Bath –Film and Darkroom • Acetic Acid – Very Strong Odor • First Aid • Ingestion - Do not induce vomiting. Give the victim several glasses of water. Get medical attention immediately. • Skin – Wash infected area with soap and water. • Eyes – Promptly wash eyes with water at the eye wash station. Continue to rinse for 15 minutes. Get medical attention immediately. • Inhalation – Move to fresh air immediately.

  12. Universal Rapid Fixer – Darkroom and Film • Ammonium Thiosulphate • First Aid • Ingestion - Do not induce vomiting. Give the victim several glasses of water. Get medical attention immediately. • Skin – Wash infected area with soap and water. • Eyes – Promptly wash eyes with water at the eye wash station. Continue to rinse for 15 minutes. Get medical attention immediately.

  13. Heico Perma Wash – Film • Ammonium Sulfite • First Aid • Ingestion - Do not induce vomiting. Give the victim several glasses of water. Get medical attention immediately. • Skin – Wash infected area with soap and water. • Eyes – Promptly wash eyes with water at the eye wash station. Continue to rinse for 15 minutes. Get medical attention immediately

  14. Kodak Photo Flo – Film • Propylene glycol • First Aid • Ingestion - Do not induce vomiting. Give the victim several glasses of water. Get medical attention immediately. • Skin – Wash infected area with soap and water. • Eyes – Promptly wash eyes with water at the eye wash station. Continue to rinse for 15 minutes. Get medical attention immediately

  15. Study, Study, Study There will be Safety Test next class. You must obtain a 90% to be admitted into the darkroom. If you do not pass with a 90% you may retake the test, but this could put you behind in your class requirements. Try your best to pass the test the first time. This is a TEST not a quiz. GOOD LUCK!!!
