  8. P – waves P wave speed = 5 Km / sec • P-wavesare one of the types of elastic waves. It is also called seismic waves, that can travel through elastic solids and liquids, including the Earth. The waves can be produced by earthquakes and recorded by seismometers. And the P-wave is the fastest wave among the elastic waves, compared to the S-waves.

  9. S - waves • S – wave has speed, 60 % of P – wave’s speed. • The S-wave moves as a shear or transverse wave, so motion is perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation: S-shaped, like waves in a rope, as opposed to waves moving through a slinky, the P-wave.

Conclusion • The area where had earthquake that I have searched is AUCKLAND ISLANDS in New Zealand.In this area, there wasn’t quite strong earthquake, but there was an earthquake for about 10 hours. • This earthquake is from S – waves, which is slower than P – waves, and goes perpendicularly. • On Sep 30 11:00 AM , that time was the time that earthquake was occur. Then later, it began to be calm down.
