High School Graduation Requirements: English - 40 credits (4 years) Math - 30 credits (3 years) Health - 5 credits (1 semester) PE - 20 credits (2 years) Physical Science - 10 credits (1 year) Biology - 10 credits (1 year) US History - 10 credits (1 year) World History/Geography - 10 credits (1 year) Economics - 5 credits (1 semester) US Government/Politics - 5 credits (1 semester) Visual Performing Art or 10 credits (1 year) World Language Electives - 75 credits (4 years) Plus passing the CAHSEE 230 credits
What is the CAHSEE?: • The California High School State Exit Exam, or CAHSEE, is an exam that all students must pass to graduate. • Students take it for the first time in 10th grade. • Must pass both sections: English and Math • Additional support if students do not pass the test by their Senior year.
levels of General Education classes: • S – Standard (not college prep) • CP – College Prep • H – Honors • AP – Advanced Placement * Students are placed in levels based on past performance, teacher recommendation, and CST Star tests.
“A – G” UC/CSU Requirements: • To be eligible for admission, students must meet subject requirements (“A-G”). • The “A – G” are the minimum academic standards for eligibilityand do not guarantee admission. • All courses taken must be completed with a semester grade of C or higher and College Prep (CP) level courses and above.
NCAA Student Athletes • Requirements for NCAA student athletes may be different from A-G and HS graduation. • Check the NCAA eligibility website for complete details, information and guidance. • www.eligibilitycenter.org
Grading Periods and Important Dates • High School – semesters • Middle School – trimesters • All progress/report cards are given to the student except June 21*.
Attendance Hotline: (805) 496 - 6998 • The hotline is open from 7am – 4pm with after hours message service available. • Absences are: • Excused • 1) illness, 2)medical/dental appointment, 3)funeral/immediate family member (1 day in CA, 3 days out of state) • Excused with prior permission – must give at least 1 week written notice • 7 truancies/tardies in any one period could result in a drop/fail from that class.
Resources - What is Zangle/Q Parent Connect? • Zangle/Q is the grading database for TOHS. Teachers • post grades for you to check through Parent Connect. • A reflection of the teachers grade book for that moment in time. • Keep “tabs” on your student • Both you and your student can receive a Zangle/Q password. • http://zangle.conejousd.org/

College and Career Planning for the 21st Century • Online web application • Research career clusters, personality type, colleges, learning styles • Communication from TOHS (college visits, news, etc.) • College application process (transcripts, school reports, recommendations) • Locate the Naviance icon on TOHS homepage (left side) • Register with student ID number
How can I get my student help? • After school tutoring – completely free! • Mondays – study skills (counselor/teacher recommendation) • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays • 3 – 4:30 pm in the library • At lunch tutoring • Sponsored through LINK Crew Room E-7 • Tuesdays and Thursdays • Individual tutors • Contact Mrs. Sparks in the College/Career Center Room D-2 • Student tutors – usually 11th and 12th graders • $15.00/hour • Adult tutors – not affiliated with TOHS • Prices vary • Use the resources available to you! • Zangle/Q, teacher websites, counselors/teachers • Summer School/Credit Recovery
EThOS Entrepreneurship Academy–What is it? • EThOS is for motivated and proactivestudents.
