Chantavia’s portfolio • I used examples from English 102 because it was the only writing class I took this semester. There are also links of my writing assignments in this portfolio. This portfolio shows the development of my writing skills from the beginning to the end of the semester.
English 101 to English 102 As a student, I had to become more mature and ready to dive into longer and more complex assignments…. English 102 takes more time and dedication….
Module 1:Writing to analyze • While writing my analysis papers, it was quite hard and took some time. I had to analyze the leadership qualities that a leader possesses and relate it to a person whom I thought was a leader. In the other paper I had to address the points: the audience, purpose, and author’s message about a article. • ChantaviaLawrence_H1.docx
Module 2:argumentative approaches • I had to learn about the three arguments Toulmin , Rogerian, Aristotelian. In my second major writing assignment, I stayed focused on the Aristotelian argument and the purpose of the argument. Not being so familiar with Aristotelian argument, it was hard for me to write about all the viewpoints. I became frustrated and my ideas were disorganized and scattered. • Writing Assignment 2.rtf
MODULE 3:Writing to convince • Coming into the third major writing assignment, I developed better writing skills and my grades increased. In my third writing assignment, I focused on the opposing sides of views and convincing my audience. • Writing assignment 3.rtf
Module 4:research and citation • After all the completed assignments before my fourth writing assignment, I was more prepared for the research paper. Discussions and peer review Being that we had discussion assignments every week, it made me better as a student to analyze and critique. I received comments back from the students, which gave me some good feedback. Peer review also helped because it showed what I needed work on and my good areas. While writing these papers and revising them, I have expanded my writing skills and knowledge of writing for college. I have demonstrated what I have learned in this portfolio.
