Energy Diagram • Producers(bottom level): grass, trees, plants etc. • Primary Consumers(middle level): herbivores that only eat plants. • Secondary Consumers(top level): carnivores, that eat the primary consumers.
Major Abiotic Factors • Plants, they create oxygen for animals to breath, some also eat the leaves of the plants, or use them as homes. • Soil, so the plants can grow. • Water for animals to drink, it also helps the plants grow.
Climate • It is generally warm all year round in the savanna, reaching a low of about 70 degrees in the Winter. • There are two seasons, the rainy season(Summer), and the drought season(Winter) . • During the rainy season there is an average of 15 to 25 inches of rainfall. While during the drought season there is an average of about 4 inches of rainfall.
Geographic Locations • Africa, Australia, South America and India.
Unique Plants and animals • Koalas live in trees they are about 33 inches long at the most. They have thick fur that keeps it cool and also warm when the weather changes. Their fur also repels moisture. Depending on the season their fur can also change colors from gray to brown. • Koalas eat eucalyptus leaves, they are able to tell if a leaf is poisonous just by smelling it. • Zebras are the horses of the savanna. They look very similar to horses besides the black and white stripes all over their bodies. Instead of neighing like a horse a zebra has a sort of “laughing” sound.
Unique Plants and animals • Baobab trees can store water in their trunks and bark, It’s thick bark also helps to protect it from fires. • The River Bushwillow tree is able to drop its leaves during drought seasons to conserve energy and water. They have a hydrophilic root system, which allows them to get water from deeper in the ground.
Vocab Words • Rainy Season- Summer Months, averages at about 15-25 inches of rain. • Drought Season- Winter Months, as little as 4 inches of rain. • Producers- Plants that produce oxygen and food for animals. • Consumers- Animals that eat plants or other animals.
