  1. Exploring Prostate Artery Embolisation

  2. Exploring Prostate Artery Embolisation INTRODUCTION: Prostate artery embolisation (PAE) is a cutting-edge procedure that offers relief to men suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as prostate enlargement. This minimally invasive technique has gained prominence for its effectiveness in reducing symptoms associated with BPH while avoiding the risks and complications of traditional surgical interventions.

  3. Exploring Prostate Artery Embolisation Minimally Invasive Nature: PAE involves threading a tiny catheter through the arteries, usually from the groin, to reach the blood vessels supplying the prostate gland. Once in place, small particles are injected into these vessels to block blood flow, thereby reducing the size of the prostate and alleviating urinary symptoms.

  4. Exploring Prostate Artery Embolisation Symptom Relief: Research has shown that PAE can effectively alleviate bothersome symptoms of BPH such as frequent urination, weak urine flow, nocturia (nighttime urination), and urinary retention. By targeting the root cause of these symptoms – the enlarged prostate – PAE provides significant relief to patients.

  5. Exploring Prostate Artery Embolisation Preservation of Sexual Function: Unlike traditional surgical treatments like transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) or open prostatectomy, PAE has been associated with a lower risk of sexual side effects such as erectile dysfunction and retrograde ejaculation. This makes it an attractive option for men concerned about preserving their sexual function.

  6. Exploring Prostate Artery Embolisation Outpatient Procedure: PAE is typically performed on an outpatient basis, meaning patients can go home the same day as the procedure. This not only reduces hospital stays and associated costs but also allows for quicker recovery and return to normal activities.

  7. Exploring Prostate Artery Embolisation High Success Rate: Studies have demonstrated that PAE is highly effective in reducing prostate volume and improving urinary symptoms, with success rates ranging from 70% to 90%. Many patients experience significant improvement in symptoms within weeks to months after the procedure.
