Routines • D.E.A.R – every day the school does Drop Everything And Read at the same time • In-door shoes are a MUST. Your child must also have running shoes for gym. • Uniform – the requirements are in the parent handbook. • Prayer- all girls need their own scarf for prayer time.
Agenda • Parent-Teacher Communication is through agendas or email. • Check each class’s weebly EACH NIGHT.
Tardiness • School starts at 7:50 A.M. • Running late? Check in at the school office before coming to class. Get a late slip. • If you are tardy more than 4 times, the school will contact your parents.

English Language Arts • Guided reading- each student reads with a group of students at their own level. This is done with the teacher. • Focus on Narrative Writing. – Sequence, punctuation, detail • Sharing thoughts and ideas & listening respectfully to others • Comprehending various types of texts
Mathematics Number Sense • Addition and Subtraction to 100 • explain and develop personal strategies for adding and subtracting numbers to 100 • pose and solve a variety of number problems requiring addition or subtraction Patterns and Relations identify, describe and extend patterns • recognize the core of a pattern • Shape and Space Geometry • Describe, compare and sort 3-D objects and 2-D shapes according to their attributes • identify 3-D objects and 2-D shapes found in the environment Statistics and Probability • gather data about self and others to answer questions • construct and interpret concrete graphs and pictographs to solve problems.

Science • Buoyancy and Boats • Construct objects that will float on and move through water, and evaluate various designs for watercraft. • Hot and Cold Temperature • Recognize the effects of heating and cooling and identify methods for heating and cooling • Small Crawling and Flying Animals • Describe the general structure and life habits of small crawling and flying animals • Magnetism • Describe the integration of magnets with other magnets and with common materials • Exploring Liquids • Describe some properties of water and other liquids • describe the interaction of water with different materials
Homework • Reading EVERY night • Home Reading Program – will start mid-October • Checked for completeness, not correctness. Ask us if you have any questions.
Resources • We now have a library and a librarian! • We will be using the Computer Lab in terms 2 and 3 • Teacher’s Aide – will be working with our students a few times a week. • Parent Volunteers are always welcome • WEP – Kelso’s Choices, Super-Flex are taught by Mrs. Monika this year to promote healthy interactions
