  2. THE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY CONTINUUM • Leisure is in the middle of the continuum • It has many common characteristics to play • Taking into consideration what you know about play, what theoretical elements do you think outline leisure. Contem Studies yr 12

  3. Leisure - definition • Leisure is our free time when all obligatory duties have been fulfilled. • It can be either passive or active. • TASK: • List 3 active and 3 passive leisure activities which you may undertake. Contem Studies yr 12

  4. Recreation - definition • Recreation is active leisure. • It is purposeful and is used as a tool for catharsis (stress relief) and promoted relaxation. Contem Studies yr 12

  7. Leisure is for all • Leisure encompasses a philosophy of sport for all. There is no elitism or competitive element to it. • In fact leisure attempts to involve as many people as possible, regardless of ability (mass participation). Contem Studies yr 12
