Simile • “Heartless” by Kanye West • “How could you be so, cold as the winter wind when it breeze, yo?” • He is comparing a woman to a cold winter breeze, thus saying she is heartless and cruel.
Metaphor • “Life Is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts • “Life is a highway, I wanna ride it all night long.” • They mean that life is a long journey with twists and turns.
Alliteration • “Love the Way You Lie” by Eminem ft. Rihanna • “It’s so insane, ‘cause when it’s going good, it’s going great.” • The “g” sound is repeated four times within one line.
Hyperbole • “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars • “And when you smile, the whole world stops and stares for a while…” • He is saying that she has a great smile, but not everyone in the world would stop to look at it.
Onomatopoeia • “Boom BoomPow” by the Black Eyed Peas • “Boom boomboom, now boom boomboom, now boom boompow, boom boompow.” • Boom is the sound associated with a sound and said how it sounds
