Glomerular filtration • Filtration of plasma by the Glomerular Nephrons take filtration happening at the capillaries happening at the body at another level. 1. The first capillary bed filters the fluid 2. The filtered fluid called filtrate moves into the renal tubule. 3. Much of this becomes urine. • Produces 180 L. every 24 hours • Cannot continue for very long, unless most of it are returned to the internal environment. To other processes contribute to urine formation.
Tribularreabsorbtion • Moves substances from the tubular fluid back into the blood within the peritubular capillary. • The kidney selectively reclaims just the right amount of substances. • Waste and excess substances exit the body.
Tubular Secretion • The reverse process, carries substances from the blood within the peritubular capillary into the renal tubule. • By contrast to tubular reabortion, some substances that body must eliminate. • Ex: Hydrogen ions, toxins
Urine • The final product of these processes. • Amount of urine=amount of filtered at the glomerulus -amount of reabsorbed by the tubule + amount of secreted by the tubule. • They contribute to homeostasis by maintaining the composition of internal environment.
Glomerular Filtration • Urine formation starts when water and certain dissolved substance are filtered out of glomerular capillaries and into glomerular capsules. • Similar to filtration at the arteriolar ends of the other capillaries. • However, many tiny openings (fenestrae) in glomerular capillary walls allows for glomerular capillaries much more permeable. • Podocytes cover these capillaries and make allow them resistant to plasma proteins. • Glomerular filtrate-Mostly the water and the same components as the plasma accepts for the large protein molecules.
Question 1. • How does urine formation contribute to the body? • Contribute to homeostasis of the composition of the internal environment.
Question 2. • Urine formation begins with the filtration of plasma by the Glomerular capillaries, a process called ______. • Glomerular filtration
Question 3. • _______moves substances from the tubular fluid back into the blood within the peritubular capillaries. • Tubular abortion.
Question 4. • Reverse process of tubular reaborbtion. • Tubular secretion
Question 5. • ______is mostly water and same components as the blood plasma except for the large protein molecules. Hint: the Glomerular receives the resulting ______. • Glomerular filtrate
