You Will Need: • Apron to cover clothes • Safety goggles to protect eyes • Four paper strips to draw the ink dots’ on • Two ink pens/markers to mark the paper strips • Two beakers for the water and the alcohol • Alcohol to demonstrate the separation of ink • Water to also demonstrate the separation of ink • Tape • Suspender to hold paper strips in place

  4. Add small amount of water to beaker Small amount of alcohol to beaker Add a black dot to 2 strips Add a brown dot to 2 strips Suspend each strip on a rod Put 2 in the water and 2 in the alcohol Watch as the colors separate!

  5. Ink, dissolves differently in different substances! In alcohol, the ink doesn’t spread as well. In water, it is a longer strip of varied colors.
