  2. What is the Transition to College Program? The Transition to College Program is an absolutely free five-day seminar, August 30th- September 3rd, consisting of activities, tours, and information sessions, offered to students with identified learning disabilities.

  3. The program’s objective is to help students become familiar with the college and college services, and to develop useful skills, helping students to feel prepared and confident on the first day of class.

  4. Who should attend the program? • Any first-year student with an Identified Learning Disability, who will be attending Sault College in the fall

  5. Get to know: • The college campus • Student Services staff & resources • Extracurricular and athletic opportunities • The student council • The library and research tools • College computer systems

  6. Learn, develop and use effective learning strategies for post-secondary education !!! Learn about: • Note-taking systems and strategies • Test-preparation, test-taking, and study strategies Cont’d...

  7. Cont’d..... • Effective organization and time-management strategies • Different assistive technologies available, and their applications • How to read course outlines, and developing a plan of attack

  8. Learn about yourself, your rights, and your responsibilities!! Gain a better understanding of your disability

  9. Learn about your rights (confidentiality, accommodation, etc.) • Learn about your responsibilities, and to be a self advocate

  10. Get a Head Start • Meet new friends • Get your student card, parking pass, locker, and textbooks.

  11. Cont’d... • Meet with counsellors to discuss your accommodations, and useful resources/services before the start of the academic year

  12. PLUS ... • Free lunches • Supplies to get you started • A multitude of prizes…

  13. You don’t have to take our word for it ... • According to student feedback, 100% of participants agreed that the Transition to College Program offered by the Sault College Disability Services Office was ‘useful or very useful to them’
