Legislative Requirement • In terms of provision of the Municipal Systems Act, municipalities should encourage a culture of public participation through • 21 days written comments • Public hearings • Publication of notices and distribution of the IDPs to all municipal main and satellite buildings
Background this Public Participation(PP) • This PP follow the Oct/Nov Community IDP inputs Road shows. • Community inputs in the IDP and Budget , • Developed a register of needs. The total number of needs 579 recorded.
Background this Public Participation(PP) • The nature of community inputs related to largely to service delivery: • Provision and maintenance of roads and storm water • Provision of housing and hostel re-development and rural development • Acquisition of land for rural development • Provision of basic services, such as water sanitation and electricity • Job creation programmes • assistance of the indigents, youth development and HIV/AIDS programmes • Social crime prevention, farm evictions
