  2. 2 I’M TOO MUCH IN MY HEAD, DUKE! ⊗ I’m thinking too much ⊗ You’re not focused on the conversation ⊗ You’re not focused on the emotional space the other person is in. Get out of your head.

  3. 3 When you’re focused on yourself, you can’t focus on other people. Our brains are really bad at doing two things at once.

  4. 4 ACTUALLY LISTEN TO WHAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE TO SAY. Avoid Distraction Avoid Distraction Look them in the eye Look them in the eye Let your mind Let your mind free-associate free-associate Your mind will come up with relatable free-associated material if you let it Don’t multitask or pretend to be aloof. Let them know you’re interested in their emotional experience as they’re talking

  6. 6 RELATE LIKE A BADASS Look for Keywords Look for Keywords Shift to your expertise Shift to your expertise They'll say particular words and phrases that you can key in on and use those phrases to jog your memory for relatable stories from your own life. If you don’t know a lot about what they’re saying, relate to something you do know.
