Where We Came From • 2003 : First joint network meeting in Ghana: initiated by country directors and health experts working in partner countries • From 2004 - 2009: Parallel Anglophone and Francophone networks • From 2008 onwards: Not just GTZ but GDC (incl. KfW, DED and InWEnt) • From 2008 onwards: GDC MS HIV website and platform • June 2010: All GTZ Focal Points and DED Mainstreaming Advisors met and requested that head offices define one agreed German approach to HIV mainstreaming

Where We Came From ...Cont‘d • June 2010: Africa Department requested the reduction of network of Focal Points of countries with a national HIV prevalence of at least 4% (based on survey of all FP and country teams regarding HIV risks and impacts on their programmes) • Medium and Lower Prevalence Countries (MLPC) formed their own working group • December 2010: BMZ and all four implementing organisations endorse the guidance note on an agreed German approach to HIV mainstreaming • June 2011: First meeting of MLPC working group in Bujumbura

  4. Where We Are • March 2012: First meeting of HPC MS HIV Network • Main Topics: • Implementation of evidence-based HIV mainstreaming according to endorsed approach (guidance note) • HIV mainstreaming after GIZ merger

  5. Main Goals of the HIV Network Meeting i) Adress challenges concerning the implementation of the joint GDC approach to HIV mainstreaming ii) Establish HIV mainstreaming network as self sustaining, member-led working group 1

Forward Looking Where we want to go • HIV MS network members to take more responsibility for sustaining the initiative as technical support through Sector Initiative PROFILE ends by December 2012 • HIV MS network will continue to operate as independent group alongside the GIZ Sector network Health & Social protection, working on issues that pertain to GDC’s HIV mainstreaming only • Members will join the HV working group for topics of shared interest between the two • Today: Let us clarify joint interests and areas of work

Main results of the HIV Network Meeting • Best practices on common MS approaches at country level shared by KfW - Zambia • Shared results of the inventories and identified main challenges and ways of dealing with them • Based on the above, we formulated topics for working groups • Monitoring and Evaluation • WPP for Internal MS • Risk Identification • Established working plans for the working groups • Stronger commitment from network members to take up more repsonsibilites of the network function • Elected a new Speaker

  8. Common Topics Suggested for HIV Working Group • Behaviour change communication intervention • Why: All of us implement such activities in the WPP and give advice for it in external mainstreaming • Linkages between HIV/SRHR/Gender • Why: Better understand the subject in view of giving advice
