  11. 1.Cropping Systems Approach • Exploiting the possibility of growing two crops under rainfed conditions during kharif. • Greengram/Blackgram followed by Groundnut/Maize/Chillies. • Maize/Groundnut followed by Greengram/Blackgram/Bengal gram • Intercrop of Red gram with Groundnut (1:7), Greengram / Blackgram(1:7),Maize/Jowar/bajra(1:2) Note: • Most of the farmers preferring intercrop of Red gram instead of sole crop where no water source is available.

  13. 2. Replacement of Varieties Replacement of existing varieties with recently released (less than 10 years) high yielding varieties. (Blackgram- PU-31,LBG-752 Greengram TMB-37,LGG-460,Red gram LRG-41,Bengalgram JAKI 9218)  Selection of Greengram and Blackgram based on the soil type and ecological conditions with appropriate variety (Greengram in light soils and Blackgram in medium to heavy soils. Varieties with smooth pods are preferred during kharif to minimize the absorption of water and insitu germination.(LGG-460,LBG-752,LGG-685) Varieties with Synchronization of flowering and erect type are preferred to facilitate mechanical harvesting.(LGG-460,LBG-752) Varieties resistant to Yellow Mosaic Virus/Powdery Mildew in Greengram and Blackgram(MGG-347,PU-1) Varieties resistant to Wilt in Red gram and Bengalgram. Short duration varieties of Red gram less than 150 days duration to avoid terminal moisture stress.(LRG-41,PRG-158.ICPL-85063)

  19. 3. Weed Management 4. Nutrition Management • Recommendation of balanced major nutrition (NPK) • Rectification of Zn deficiency through Basal application and /or through foliar spray of Zinc sulphate@ 20 kg/ ha. • Reclamation of problematic soils through Gypsum/Lime depending up on the soil status Main reason for low productivity in Pulses both in kharif and Rabi rice fallow is due to excessive Weed growth. Due to shortage of agriculture Labour and the increased wages, the hand weeding and hoeing is not possible at appropriate stage of crop growth. Encouragement of Weed management through weedicides (Preemergence and Post emergence)

  20. 5.Pest and Disease Management 6. Farm Mechanization • Popularization of Rotavators for proper land preparation, conoweeder for weed control and root growth. • Encouraging line sowing and simultaneous application of basal nutrients through Multicrop Seed Cum fertilizer Drills. • Encouraging Mechanical Harvesting at proper time and to avoid labour scarcity and to minimize crop loss due to adverse climatic conditions. Seed treatment with Bio Agents like Trichoderma Viridi Creating awareness of about different pests and diseases and their management through training and field exposure. Creating awareness of using appropriate pesticide concentration and quantity of spray fluid Encouraging to select disease/pest resistant varieties. Community based plant protection measures in cluster demonstrations.

  21. 7. Post Harvest To maintain the quality of the grain, tarpaulins are supplied to farmers on Subsidy basis for proper drying and protecting from loss due to unseasonal rains. To get remunerative price to the farmer, procurement is arranged through societies and nodal agencies like MARKFED. Supply of mini dal mills on subsidy to societies and groups for value addition to generate higher income.

Critical Interventions to increase Productivity and Production of Pulses Seed Replacement Ratio(SRR):33% of the cropped area Varietal Replacement Ratio (VRR): Replacement of old varieties 15-20 % every year with recently released varieties of less than 10 years Seed Rolling Plan for 12th Plan has been worked out and required quantities of breeder seed of different varieties of Rice & Pulses are indented to ANGRAU (State Agriculture University) Popularization of short duration varieties in water scarcity and flood prone areas. Popularization of Yellow Mosaic virus resistant varieties in greengram and blackgram and wilt resistant varieties in bengal gram Sowing through Multicrop planter for optimum population . Popularization of pre emergence weedicides for effective control of weeds. Effective use of water through sprinkler sets , mobile rain guns , pumpsets and water carrying pipes in low water availability areas. Capacity building : On farm training through FFS

Increase of Area under Pulses Exploiting the possibilities of growing Pulse in Rice fallow areas like blackgram and greengram Introduction of Pulses in non traditional areas Encouraging intercrop of Red gram with Blackgram/Greengram during kharif. In all 13districts , the cluster demonstration are being implemented.

Oilseeds area Sown during Kharif -2014upto 10.09.2014 • Remarks: • Groundnut area covered in 69% to seasonal normal area due to low rainfall received in Rayalaseema region. • Rayalaseema dist (Anantapur) farmers were advised to go for contingency crops like millets and short duration pulse crops instead of delayed sowing of Groundnut.

  36. 1.Cropping Systems Approach 2.Replacement of Varieties • Replacement of existing varieties with recently released (less than 10 years) high yielding varieties. • The old varieties like TMV 2 and JL24 are replaced with K6 and promoting new varieties like K9, ICGV 91114, TAG 24, Anantha, Kadiri ,Haritandra. • In North Coastal districts it is planned for supply of new short duration varieties like Grieshma, Rohini, Dharani, K9, Anantha, Kadiri, Haritandra which helps in escaping from major diseases (leaf spot). Exploiting the possibility of growing two crops under rainfed conditions during kharif. Crop rotation with groundnut/ finger millet/ sorghum/ chickpea/ soybean are effective. Intercropping of Groundnut with Castor and Redgram ( 7: 1 )

  37. 3.Weed Management Main reason for low productivity in Oilseeds both in Kharif and Rabi is due to excessive Weed growth. Due to shortage of Agriculture Labour and the increased wages, the hand weeding and hoeing is not possible at appropriate stage of crop growth. Timely Intercultivation can be done to reduce weed competition for which low cost implements may be popularized. Encouragement of Weed management through weedicides (Preemergence and Post emergence). Planning to eradicate the Parthenium weed and soil application of FYM enriched with Trichoderma Viridi to manage the Peanut Stem Necrosis disease (PSND) and Peanut Bud Necrosis disease ( PBND).

Pest and Disease Management • Seed treatment with Bio Agents like TrichodermaViridi. • Creating Awareness of different pests and diseases through training and field exposure. • Creating Awareness of using appropriate pesticide concentration and quantity of spray fluid • Encouraging to select disease/pest resistant varieties. • Recommendation of Balanced Major Nutrients (NPK) • Rectification of Zn deficiency through Basal Application and /or through foliar spray of Zinc Sulphate • Reclamation of problematic soils through Gypsum/Lime. • Rectification of Micro Nutrient deficiencies like Boron and Iron .

  39. 6.Farm Mechanization 7.Post Harvest • Post Harvest Technology should be used for improving the quality of produce and also to reduce the cost of cultivation. • To get remunerative price to the farmer, procurement is arranged through societies and Nodal Agencies like MARKFED. Popularisation of Rotavators for proper land preparation ,weed control and root growth. Encouraging line sowing and simultaneous application of basal nutrients through Multicrop Seed Cum fertilizer Drills. Encouraging Mechanical Harvesting to avoid labour scarcity and to minimize crop loss due to adverse climatic conditions.

  40. Critical Interventions to increase Oilseed Productivity and Production Seed Replacement Ratio (SRR) planned for different oil seed crops is: Ground nut (87%),, Sunflower and Soybean (100%), Sesamum (35%) and Safflower (36%) respectively. Varietal Replacement Ratio (VRR): Replacement of old varieties with recently released varieties of less than 10 years Seed Rolling Plan for 12th Plan has been worked out and required quantities of breeder seed of different varieties are indented to ANGRAU (State Agriculture University) Strengthening of seed chain i.e, seed production programme from Purchase of Breeder seed to Foundation and Certified seed. Supply of quality certified seed of recommended potential genotypes (cultivar) for different farming situations. Contd…

Popularization Botrytis & Drought resistant varieties in Castor and wilt resistant varieties in Sunflower. Sowing through Multi crop planter for maintaining plant optimum population . Popularization of pre emergence weedicides for effective control of weeds. Effective use of water through sprinkler sets, and water carrying pipes in low water availability areas. Capacity building : On farm training through FFS

Critical Interventions to increase Oilseed Productivity and Production Contd… • Adopting Dry Land Technology like Water Harvesting structures (Farm Ponds) for protective irrigation and effective utilization of water resources. • Enhancing the Extension Reach through NGOS’, Rythu Clubs and RythuMitra Groups etc., by utilizing Press and Electronic media. • Planning with Research back up by working in co-ordination with scientists of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural university, KVKs, DAATT centers to extend timely guidance. • Special emphasis on Information Technology by providing information online through AGRISNET.

  43. Improvement of Productivity in High Area with low productivity Introduction of short duration varieties in water scarcity areas. Deep ploughing to eliminate Soil borne diseases & to make the soil for more water holding capacity. Popularization resistant varieties for sucking pest in Groundnut like K-6 and wilt resistant varieties in Sunflower. Encourage water harvesting structures like farm ponds with lining.Use of sprinklers and water supply pipes to cover more area with existing water resources. Reclamation of problematic soils through Gypsum/Lime.

Increase of Area in Oilseeds • Introduction of Oilseeds in non traditional areas : like West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam during Rabi. • Encouraging Intercropping Groundnut with Red gram in 11:1or 7:1 ratio. • Sunflower as catch crop in situations where water is available for shorter duration in rabi/summer season. • Groundnut crop shall be promoted in upland areas of Kurnool, Kadapa districts and low productive Paddy areas.
