  2. Ventanilla de Salud A partnership between the American Diabetes Association-Colorado Area and the Mexican Consulate-Denver, Colorado.

Program Description Ventanillas de Salud (VDS) is a unique multi-strategy component of ADA-Colorado Area’s Por Tu Familia Program that provides on-site assistence to visitors to the Mexican Consulate through three main strategies: Information and referrals on accessing medical services available in the community Enrollment in public programs Culturally competent, linguistically appropriate education on chronic diseases

  4. Using Health Services as a Window to Other Services and Information

Goals • To improve the health status and promote disease prevention for all Latino families; • To increase enrollment in public insurance programs; • To reduce the levels of underutilization of public health insurance programs of the Mexican population; and, • To become the center of trusted health information, resources and referrals for underserved Latinos in Colorado.

Accomplishments and Awards • 2009 Best Community Program by La Iglesia de San Cayetano • 2008 Mission Accomplished Award by ADA National Office • 2007 Outstanding Community Initiatives Award by the ADA • 2007 Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award “Character, Hope, Inclusiveness • 2006 Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Excellence in Education Award • 2007 Colorado Rockies Hispanic Leadership Award • 2006 Colorado Coalition for the Medically Underserved “Lay person of the year” for outstanding service to Colorado’s Medically Underserved
